The pressure is on…

19th July – the day I graduated and since then I have been asked about a million times ‘what am I doing with my life?’

As much as I would like to answer that question with a long life plan, I am not entirely sure. And the reality is that it is okay to feel like that. We don’t need to feel like we have all our lives together because we’re still quite young.

I remember when I was little, I used think that people in University knew exactly what they were doing and what they wanted to do. But in reality, we are pushed into so many different directions that by the time we graduate with like 1000 other people, we have no clue in life. Then the pressure builds as everyone around you is asking questions, sets expectations and makes you feel more scared than you were before.

But there are a few things I want you to remember when the pressure builds and you feel like you have no hope in life:

  1. Everyone who has recently graduated, feels exactly like you. We all feel a little lost and confused and that is completely normal.
  2. Rejection is part of post graduation life – I have applied for so many jobs and received rejections and honestly, that is fine. That just means you wouldn’t fit into the company anyway so it’s all good. There is something great out there for you.
  3. Explore your options: you don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. Get a job if you want, go on a gap year, volunteer abroad, start your business or just take a break and do something completely different. There is no set path and you shouldn’t feel pressured to do a certain thing.

Remember this is the start of your amazing life, not the end of adventures. So, go out there and shine brighter than before.
