Firstly, I want to apologise to Asifa and many other young girls like her who we were unable to protect. I am sorry that we have created a world where things like this happen. I am sorry that your last memories of this world are so painful. I am so so so sorry that even now people are protecting those who did this to you. I am sorry from the bottom of my heart Asifa.
For those of you who don’t know Asifa then you need to go and look at the horrific story. The story that makes me shiver and scared at the thought of ever stepping out into a world like this. Asifa, an 8 year old girl was kidnapped and raped by 8 men and then murdered. How can someone do that? I don’t even understand. What could ever consume a person to carry out an act like this?
Now is the time to get justice for Asifa. Asifa represents the many other young girls who have faced this and gone unnoticed!
But as we ask, pray and protest for justice, we need to remember one thing. One simple thing. The people who did this don’t represent the whole of a nation or a religion. When we say that these people are bad, that doesn’t make the whole country bad.
We all need to come together, whether Hindu or Muslim and ask for the justice that Asifa can’t ask for. We need to show unity rather than division, because when we fall apart we are unable to fight the systems that try to make horrific acts like this seem right.
Finally, I ask you all to pray for Asifa’s family and pray for the many other girls like Asifa as they go through some of the hardest times of their lives. ❤
